About New York

New York State's oldest stories cluster along the Hudson, from the harbor at the tip of Manhattan up into the river valleys the Dutch farmed in the 1600s. Our two tours sit at either end of that stretch: one in Lower Manhattan, one in the village Washington Irving made famous. The Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan Walking Tour covers nine stops over 2.4 miles, about 1 hour 24 minutes with the stories. It starts at the Manhattan end of the Brooklyn Bridge and passes City Hall Park, the Woolworth Building, St. Paul's Chapel, the 9/11 Memorial, Trinity Church, Federal Hall, where Washington took the oath in 1789, and Fraunces Tavern, before ending at Castle Clinton by the harbor. Sleepy Hollow: The Legend Walk covers five stops over 1.5 miles, about 53 minutes. It starts at Patriots Park, where militiamen stopped the British spy John André in 1780, and follows the old Albany Post Road past Philipsburg Manor and the Old Dutch Church to the Headless Horseman Bridge and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, where Irving is buried. The city walk works any day of the year. The Sleepy Hollow walk is at its best in October, when the whole valley leans into the legend, so go early in the day then.
